 Overview

Project F.I.N. brings the global to the local with its Adopt-A-Family program. This program is modeled after those provided by many international organizations whose similar programs encourage interested western or first world citizen to adopt and give support to children from third and second world nations. The uniqueness of Project F.I.N's local, Bay Area program is that the adoption is extended to not only children, but as well to the families of which they are a part. We believe that supporting dependent children through crisis situations also requires helping to stabilize their families.

Project F.I.N's Adopt-A-Family program provides financial assistance and emotional support to enable qualified, low-income families with dependent children to move from unstable crisis situations into stability and self-sufficiency.

Project F.I.N has over 200 families, including several Katrina Victim evacuees currently living in the Bay Area, who are eligible for and urgently need to be adopted by concerned and caring families or individuals.

The primary goals of the adoption include:

  • To prevent families from becoming homeless
  • To enable families to become productive members of the community through, for example, helping adult members enter or re-enter the work force. Project F.I.N sets up job interviews from a list of pre-screened employers who have agreed to hire qualified individuals who are currently in or have completed our program.
  • Providing support to help children stay in school, as well as assist all members of the family in achieving their educational goals.

Acceptance Guidelines

Due to limited funding, we may not be able to help every family that seeks our assistance. We accept only those families that can demonstrate a willingness to work for a successful outcome.

Each family must complete a questionnaire prior to an interview and evaluation by a program manager. If adopted, the client enters into a written contract.

Acceptance into the program is subject to the following conditions:

  • The family must consist of at least one parent with at least one child living in the home.
  • The family must live in San Francisco
  • There must be no evidence of substance abuse for at least six months. If a substance abuse problem does exist, the client must show evidence that he/she has entered into a treatment program.
  • A goal agreement contract must be signed with Project F.I.N

Motivation is the key to our program. It is central to our goal of helping families become self-sufficient members of the community. Progress and needs will be regularly reviewed and a detailed case management file will be maintained.

We are a small agency with limited funds, and thus want to be absolutely certain that all donations to Project F.I.N are used wisely.

We Need Your Help

How can you or your family help?

  • Nutritional needs: Many families in crisis situations can not afford to buy the basic food products required for the healthy growth and sustenance of the youngest family members.
  • Specials Needs: School supplies, warm clothing, shoes, toys for tots, transportation assistance etc. Families that have lost their source of income may need more then one time assistance.
